My teen daughter's car broke down on I-95 late eve on a Friday, on her first-ever multi-state road trip. Scary for her, and scary for me since she was already a long way away. Called John Collins based on good reviews on Google, hoping against hope for some safe assistance for her, and asked pointed questions about the integrity of his employees. He assured me all would be well, said he expects his crew to treat customers like family, and sent Brian up to retrieve her and her car. Brian was AWESOME! He went straightaway to get her, took her to a nearby hotel he thought would be safe for her, offered to get her food or take her by a grocery, gave her and me his # in case there was any issue overnight she might need immediate local back-up for, and offered to personally take her to a train station and walk her in if he couldn't get her car fixed on Saturday. He kept me updated throughout the ordeal, checking in regularly with info about her car repairs, and inquiring about her location and safety. She felt safer knowing she had back-up, and Brian DID get her car fixed on Saturday, hallelujah! and she was on her way Saturday afternoon, safe and secure! Thank you Brian, thank you John!!!
We were heading out of town on vacation and the engine seized in MD due to a bad oil change. After waiting for FOUR AND A HALF HOURS for AAA, we did a google search for a tow company in the area. The top reviewed was Collins and it was WELL deserved!
We called a little after midnight and got a call back immediately. Within 15 minutes we had a truck there ready to tow us to the garage. The driver even let me put my bike and rack inside so no one messed with it overnight.
The next AM, the owner came into the shop ON HIS DAY OFF just to check my car out and see what could be done. He was personable, professional and a really nice guy. He gave it to me straight (some people might not like that, but I would rather have that vs sugar coated BS.) and told me the bad news. New engine would cost me $8-10K. NOT what I was hoping for, but sometimes the truth hurts.
I was able to leave my car there while we continued on vacation, rented a car and ended up buying a used car while down south. Even though I had told them that I wasn't going to have the work done, they still opened up the engine to see if there was anything they could possibly do....again, this was well above and beyond what they needed to do! Unfortunately, it was a lost cause.
Mr. Collins worked with me and even dealt with handling getting the car to the junkyard so that I didn't have to deal with that either! I can't thank him and his team of mechanics for everything they did.
If you are in the Havre de Grace area, you should definitely make them your go to mechanic. If you ever brake down in that area, don't call anyone else!
Can not say enough good things about this fine gentleman. He saved this old veteran on a Saturday morning. Fast, efficient and friendly. God Bless you brother.
